Collection Overview: The Baltimore Transit Directories, Maps, and Timetables exhibit features Baltimore streetcar memorabilia from the personal collection of Jerry Kelly, a member of the Baltimore Streetcar Museum and an avid streetcar buff. This exhibit spans public transportation in Baltimore, Maryland between the years 1927 and 1943, between the United Railways and Electric Company (UR&E) and the Baltimore Transit Company (BTCo) (its successor), and between the various modes of public transportation, i.e., streetcars, buses, and trackless trolleys, used during these years.
An early entry is an edition of Trolley News published September 22, 1927 by the UR&E that targeted visitors to the "The Fair of the Iron Horse." The Fair was a celebration of the one hundredth anniversary of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company held from September 24 to October 15, 1927 at outdoor fairgrounds in Halethorpe, Baltimore County, Maryland. This publication includes articles about various sights at the Fair and a map of Baltimore showing which streetcar, bus, or trackless trolley lines to take to attend the Fair.
A later entry is a BTCo Souvenir Transit Picture Map aimed at visitors to the 97th Annual Convention of the American Chemical Society held April 3-7, 1939 in Baltimore, Maryland. It provides information on how to access public transportation to visit sights in and around Baltimore.
Some publications are specific to a particular car or bus line. Some contain a directory for all streetcar, bus, and trackless trolley lines in Baltimore.
